The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 4 played minutes Pocos got a freekick which was hit by Edinho Cardozo. Denílson da Costa was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 5th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Claudinho Lago. Edmílson Tepedino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Willian Faria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denílson da Costa having to interfere. Willian Faria could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Denílson da Costa made a huge save. Telmo Silva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leopoldo Simões having to interfere. If Willian Faria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 32nd minute, Edmílson Tepedino fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Denílson da Costa, passed just outside the right post. Denílson da Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edmílson Tepedino in the 35th minute of play. 38 minutes into the match, Pocos's goalkeeper Denílson da Costa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Willian Faria. Mateus Corrêa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leopoldo Simões having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cícero Branco during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When the match had gone on for 50 minutes, Edmílson Tepedino took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Denílson da Costa to make any attempt to save it. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Lucas Antunes made a kick off. The supporters of Pocos booed when Gama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fiori Dias didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pocos's Denílson da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edmílson Tepedino in the 63rd minute of play. Willian Faria blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Denílson da Costa having to make a save. Edmílson Tepedino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Denílson da Costa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Willian Faria, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Edmílson Tepedino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Denílson da Costa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Pocos's Mateus Corrêa got a free kick in the 89th minute. 90 minutes into the match, Gama's Edmílson Tepedino sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Denílson da Costa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Pocos's Denílson da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edmílson Tepedino in the 93rd minute of play. After some careless play in the Pocos defense, Edmílson Tepedino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Denílson da Costa. The Pocos fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Denílson da Costa should have stopped the shot. 98 minutes into the match, Pocos's goal looked a bit too open when Willian Faria came free, but Denílson da Costa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Edmílson Tepedino in the 100th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Denílson da Costa prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
