The referee showed Magno Borges the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Santos's Magno Borges got a free kick in the 13th minute. Sertanopolis SS's Afonsinho Dionísio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vágner Koehler in the 17th minute of play. 21 minutes into the match, Sertanopolis SS's goal looked a bit too open when Vágner Koehler came free, but Afonsinho Dionísio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marquinhos Cearense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Afonsinho Dionísio having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Sertanopolis SS's zone, Vágner Koehler stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Afonsinho Dionísio came out of the goal and Vágner Koehler tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 31st minute, Vágner Koehler got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Santos booed when Sertanopolis SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vítor Nogueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sertanopolis SS's Afonsinho Dionísio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 34th minute of the match, managed to save Sertanopolis SS from getting a goal against them. Cleiton Sá kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. The supporters of Sertanopolis SS booed when Santos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tiago Gabriel Ceresso didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vágner Koehler in the 58th minute of play forced Sertanopolis SS's goalkeeper Afonsinho Dionísio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 58 minutes, Fabinho Vergílio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sertanopolis SS and the Santos players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Sertanopolis SS getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Fabinho Vergílio hit a great ball. Afonsinho Dionísio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marquinhos Cearense in the 61st minute of the match. 62 minutes into the match, Marquinhos Cearense notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Sertanopolis SS's Afonsinho Dionísio. Afonsinho Dionísio was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 79thth minute of the game Marquinhos Cearense who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sertanopolis SS's Afonsinho Dionísio was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sertanopolis SS's supporters rose to their feet, but Acácio Monteiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hílton Branco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pedro Luiz Proença might have been able to make a better finish in the 86th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hílton Branco. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Pedro Luiz Proença ran back to his position shaking his head. Hílton Branco stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Acácio Monteiro's shot from short distance in the 86th minute. If Pedro Luiz Proença had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 90 minutes into the match, Sertanopolis SS's goal looked a bit too open when Marquinhos Cearense came free, but Afonsinho Dionísio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Afonsinho Dionísio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marquinhos Cearense, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Juvenal de Lara's late challenge caught a Sertanopolis SS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Juvenal de Lara helped the player get up and apologised. After 100 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Santos! The referee gave Sertanopolis SS a penalty, 102 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Cristian Queiroz, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Santos's Hílton Branco. 3-1.
