Marquinhos Cearense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 10th minute of the match, but Wesley Alvarenga made a huge save. 11 minutes into the match, Santos's Marquinhos Cearense sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Wesley Alvarenga narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bebeto Paraense in the 19th minute of play forced Santos's goalkeeper Hílton Branco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Marquinhos Cearense came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Santos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marquinhos Cearense couldn't finish the play. Marquinhos Cearense received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Wesley Alvarenga tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 28th match minute, Santos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Igor Abreu to maneuver through the defense. 29 minutes into the game, Vágner Koehler was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Santos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chelsea Fc the free kick. A collision led to Santos getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Vágner Koehler hit a great ball. Cleiton Sá kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Vágner Koehler managed to get in a good position for a shot. Santos's supporters rose to their feet, but Vágner Koehler was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wesley Alvarenga breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Wesley Alvarenga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vágner Koehler, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. In the 42ndth minute of the game Bebeto Paraense who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Santos's Hílton Branco was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.

Hílton Branco made an important save on a dangerous shot by Bebeto Paraense in the 52nd minute. Ramiro Montenegro hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Bebeto Paraense recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match had gone on for 72 minutes, Bebeto Paraense put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Hílton Branco. The supporters of Chelsea Fc booed when Santos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juvenal de Lara didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bebeto Paraense in the 81stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal.
