Spectators: 7248 (Terracing: 5437, Seating: 1667, VIP seats: 144) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Leonel Barros got the match started through his kick off. If Vágner Koehler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Edson Zonta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marquinhos Cearense in the 7th minute of the match. The referee felt a red card was in order, 11 minutes into the game, when Juvenal de Lara put in a rough tackle. The goalkeeper, Hílton Branco, was totally fooled by CA Independente's Rodrigo Baptista, who 13 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Marquinhos Cearense recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Marquinhos Cearense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Santos's Hílton Branco got control of the ball when Benjamin Arruda tried to sneak it across the goal line. Cleiton Sá charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cleiton Sá the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 38 minutes of play, Santos's Marquinhos Cearense made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Edson Zonta was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 46thth minute of the game Marquinhos Cearense who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but CA Independente's Edson Zonta was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marquinhos Cearense in the 47th minute of play forced CA Independente's goalkeeper Edson Zonta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marquinhos Cearense stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Cleiton Sá fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edson Zonta having to interfere. When Santos's Cleiton Sá in the 55th minute got a chance for a shot 55th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye CA Independente's goalie prevented a goal. In the 57th minute the ball was on its way in behind CA Independente's goalkeeper Edson Zonta, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Marquinhos Cearense took the ball and in the 58 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Edson Zonta. Edson Zonta dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Cleiton Sá hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. Santos's Igor Abreu got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hílton Branco stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Giovanni Ortiz's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. Marquinhos Cearense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edson Zonta came out of the goal in the 84th minute to try and stop a shot by Santos's Marquinhos Cearense. But to his dismay, Marquinhos Cearense quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-4. After a defensive mix-up in CA Independente's zone, Tiago Gabriel Ceresso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edson Zonta came out of the goal and Tiago Gabriel Ceresso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marquinhos Cearense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edson Zonta having to interfere. Cleiton Sá sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Santos played a much better game than CA Independente and deserved their victory. The CA Independente players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
