The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 28th minute of the game. One of Formigas SC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Fortaleza:s goal. The goalkeeper, Ulysses Mesquita, was totally fooled by Fortaleza's Osvaldinho Sanches, who 30 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ulysses Mesquita showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Kaimo Äss who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 46thth minute tested the skills of Ulysses Mesquita when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

In the 60th match minute, Fortaleza was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Oswaldo Quadros to maneuver through the defense. Kaimo Äss sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Natã Galvão came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Fortaleza fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Natã Galvão couldn't finish the play. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind Formigas SC's goalkeeper Ulysses Mesquita, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ulysses Mesquita stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kaimo Äss's shot from short distance in the 74th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Formigas SC's zone, Kaimo Äss stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ulysses Mesquita came out of the goal and Kaimo Äss tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Kaimo Äss managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fortaleza's supporters rose to their feet, but Kaimo Äss was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ulysses Mesquita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 79 minutes into the match, Fortaleza's Kaimo Äss sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ulysses Mesquita narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Fortaleza's Rene Oxel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Fortaleza from getting a goal against them. Jarbas Lira kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Kaimo Äss blasted a shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ulysses Mesquita having to make a save. Ulysses Mesquita didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Kaimo Äss went, in the 87th minute, to the upper right corner, 7-0 was the resulting score. After 91 played minutes Fortaleza got a freekick which was hit by Belmiro Rodrigues. In the 93rd minute, Kaimo Äss ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ulysses Mesquita was frozen by the shot and now it was 8-0. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Fortaleza had played much better football throughout.
