Gil Ramalho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severino Breckenfeld in the 13th minute of play. A collision led to Fidelis getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Gustavo Mota hit a great ball. After 21st play minutes Pedro Luís Machado shot 1-1, a short shot which went by Gil Ramalho and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 27th minute, Fidelis's Yuri Mineiro ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Sebastião Godoi. Sebastião Godoi yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. If Severino Breckenfeld had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Pedro Luís Machado to make the kick off. Gil Ramalho made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edmílson de Almeida in the 56th minute. If Severino Breckenfeld had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 58 played minutes Fidelis got a freekick which was hit by Kaká Lopes. After having played for 59 minutes, Severino Breckenfeld managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Verdadeiros's supporters crossed their fingers, but Severino Breckenfeld was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Verdadeiros booed when Fidelis was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position.
