ZASS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave real madrid the free kick. A collision led to ZASS getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Toninho de Barros hit a great ball. real madrid's Romário de Azevedo got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. ZASS's Luciano Nogueira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save ZASS from getting a goal against them. Jailson Lima sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match clock showed 22 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Gualter Castro sped through real madrid's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jano Magalhães. If Romário de Azevedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 32 minutes into the game, Romário de Azevedo recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Luciano Nogueira. Romário de Azevedo showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-2. Tomás Aparecido struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Luciano Nogueira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for real madrid. The supporters of real madrid booed when ZASS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vítor Dante didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luciano Nogueira didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Romário de Azevedo went, in the 45th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-2 was the resulting score. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomás Aparecido was the one to do the kick off. Jano Magalhães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gualter Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tomás Aparecido received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Luciano Nogueira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 68th minute Romário de Azevedo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luciano Nogueira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tomás Aparecido recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 78th match minute, ZASS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Toninho de Barros to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in real madrid's zone, Gualter Castro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jano Magalhães came out of the goal and Gualter Castro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tomás Aparecido's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luciano Nogueira read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. When real madrid's Romário de Azevedo in the 88th minute got a chance for a shot 88th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
