Mateus Figueiredo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Noel Furtado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Esmeraldas booed when Atlético Baiano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivo Trancoso didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ivo Trancoso was shown his second yellow card after 19 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 20th match minute, Atlético Baiano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ivo Trancoso to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Paulo Gonçalves in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Noel Furtado saved Atlético Baiano from getting behind. Atlético Baiano's Cauã Correia got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cauã Correia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute, Cauã Correia got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Tarcisio Gaspar kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. In the 42nd minute, Kauan Damião hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 48th minute, Celsinho Romero sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Atlético Baiano's Noel Furtado didn't even have to move. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Cauã Correia made the kick off in the second half. Paulo Gonçalves was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 53rd minute. Esmeraldas's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Noel Furtado was out of position in the 60 minute of play, and Paulo Gonçalves capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Paulo Gonçalves really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. Michel Seco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nuno da Rocha having to interfere. In the 69th match minute, Esmeraldas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zé Eger to maneuver through the defense. Atlético Baiano's Noel Furtado proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to save Atlético Baiano from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in Esmeraldas's zone, Cauã Correia stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nuno da Rocha came out of the goal and Cauã Correia tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tarcisio Gaspar struck a weak shot in the 75th minute. Nuno da Rocha didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Atlético Baiano. Atlético Baiano's defense didn't have a chance, in the 80th minute, when Gláuber de Souza scored to the left of an out of position Noel Furtado, making the score, 1-2. Nuno da Rocha didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Michel Seco went, in the 88th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. Mateus Figueiredo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 95thth minute tested the skills of Noel Furtado when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Cauã Correia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Esmeraldas supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Esmeraldas would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
