Caetano Barral might have been able to make a better finish in the 9th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Leonel Guimarães. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Caetano Barral ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 14th minute Caetano Barral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leonel Guimarães saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Albertinho Antunes during the 16th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 16 played minutes C. R. FLAMENGO got a freekick which was hit by Albertinho Antunes. Válbson Quirino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Artur Tavares, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. Válbson Quirino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Artur Tavares in the 21st minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Racing Club's Luiz Paulo Torres got a free kick in the 24th minute. The audience was convinced that Caetano Barral's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Leonel Guimarães was relentless in the 25th minute of the game. Leonel Guimarães showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Caetano Barral in the 28th minute of the match. Caetano Barral fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leonel Guimarães having to interfere. Ulisses Aparecido received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Válbson Quirino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Caetano Barral was the one to do the kick off. Nestor Mendes scored 0-1 in the 51st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Leonel Guimarães, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Beto Brito charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Beto Brito the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Nestor Mendes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Caetano Barral managed to get in a good position for a shot. C. R. FLAMENGO's supporters rose to their feet, but Caetano Barral was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Leonel Guimarães breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Armando Palmeira, 68 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Racing Club's Leonel Guimarães played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Caetano Barral in the 73rd minute of play. A collision led to C. R. FLAMENGO booed when Racing Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luiz Paulo Torres didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nestor Mendes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leonel Guimarães having to interfere. Leonel Guimarães made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Caetano Barral in the 85th minute of play. After 88 minutes of play C. R. FLAMENGO's Beto Brito was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After a rather tough play, C. R. FLAMENGO's Beto Brito got a free kick in the 89th minute. 93 minutes in the game, Nestor Mendes fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Leonel Guimarães having to interfere.
