Artur Tavares was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 5th minute. Racing Club's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Giovana F.C.'s Luís Guilherme Nunes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 8th minute of the match, managed to save Giovana F.C. from getting a goal against them. 14 minutes into the game, one of Racing Club:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Racing Club:s Leonel Guimarães showed great skill when he stopped Gilvan Viana:s penalty. Artur Tavares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Guilherme Nunes having to interfere. In the 22nd minute, Cléber Peres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Giovana F.C.'s Vânderson Barral got a free kick in the 24th minute. Wanderson Tróia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Leonel Guimarães tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Racing Club's zone, Felippe Mineiro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonel Guimarães came out of the goal and Felippe Mineiro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Ulisses Aparecido had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Leonel Guimarães showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felippe Mineiro in the 35th minute of the match. Jailson Mangueira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leonel Guimarães having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Jailson Mangueira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Giovana F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Jailson Mangueira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Leonel Guimarães breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Luiz Paulo Torres kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. In the 48th minute of the match Giovana F.C. got a corner. Racing Club's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gilvan Viana ran over to the corner to take the kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Cléber Peres heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Leonel Guimarães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vânderson Barral, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Wanderson Tróia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leonel Guimarães having to interfere. Luiz Paulo Torres's late challenge caught a Giovana F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Luiz Paulo Torres helped the player get up and apologised. After 76 played minutes Racing Club got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Paulo Torres. After 79 minutes, Osmar Tasso mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Racing Club and the Giovana F.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 78th minute of the game. One of Racing Club:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Giovana F.C.:s goal. Gilvan Viana shot the penalty kick right outside the post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Artur Tavares in the 90th minute of play forced Giovana F.C.'s goalkeeper Luís Guilherme Nunes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
