The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 38th minute, Edmundo Dionísio left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Pompuanas AD fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Edmundo Dionísio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Carlos Godoi having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Cristiano Melo charged in rather forcefully in the 82nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cristiano Melo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Joaninha FC booed when Pompuanas AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristiano Melo didn't get a good kick on the ball.
