The excitement rose when Tricolor Carioca FC's Germano Galvão after 32 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for SE Mauá's goalkeeper to hold. Score! 1-0. A collision led to SE Mauá getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Celso Duarte hit a great ball. Otávio de Salles took the ball and in the 46 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dagoberto Salles. Dagoberto Salles dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Otávio de Salles stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Dagoberto Salles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Márcio Neves, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Otávio de Salles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 55 played minutes João Augusto da Costa rounded Tricolor Carioca FC's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-2. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in SE Mauá reached it. Otávio de Salles recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Márcio Neves was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 86th minute. SE Mauá's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Dagoberto Salles didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Otávio de Salles went, in the 88th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-4 was the resulting score. During the 94th minute of the match Gilmar Queirós completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Gilmar Queirós a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game.
