Laerte Vieira was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Laerte Vieira stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Murilo Britto's shot from short distance in the 45th minute. If Angelo Matos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Caetano Martins to make the kick off. Lua Sporting's Murilo Britto got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Angelo Matos came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Lua Sporting fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Angelo Matos couldn't finish the play. 61 minutes into the match, Lua Sporting's Murilo Britto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Laerte Vieira narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Angelo Matos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Laerte Vieira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Murilo Britto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Laerte Vieira was relentless in the 74th minute of the game. 77 minutes into the match, Congonhas's goalkeeper Laerte Vieira had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Murilo Britto. When Arlindo de Azevedo came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Congonhas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arlindo de Azevedo couldn't finish the play. Murilo Britto might have been able to make a better finish in the 92nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Laerte Vieira. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Murilo Britto ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 94th minute, Arlindo de Azevedo made a precise shot to the right of Bernardinho Vale. Lua Sporting's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-3.
