The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Gira EC's goal looked a bit too open when Waldemar Cabral came free, but Charles Trancoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 7 minutes into the match, Avanzzeira F.C's goalkeeper Glauco Tasso had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sydney Sabóia. After some fancy dribbling in the 8th minute, Henrique Ortiz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gira EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Henrique Ortiz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Glauco Tasso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 10th minute Henrique Ortiz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Glauco Tasso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 12 minutes into the game, Leandro Albuquerque was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gira EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Avanzzeira F.C the free kick. Waldemar Cabral received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Charles Trancoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gilmar Macedo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Trancoso having to interfere. In the 16th minute, Leandro Albuquerque hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gira EC's Charles Trancoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Waldemar Cabral in the 17th minute of play. The supporters of Gira EC booed when Avanzzeira F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Reginaldo Nóbrega didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gilmar Macedo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Trancoso having to interfere. If Gilmar Macedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Glauco Tasso made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Sydney Sabóia sent off a good shot on target. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Glauco Tasso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Henrique Ortiz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 56 minutes, José Vítor Arantes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Avanzzeira F.C and the Gira EC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 57th minute there was a penalty for Gira EC. Celsinho Tande stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Glauco Tasso. 1-0. Leandro Albuquerque got his second yellow card in the match during the 60th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 60th match minute, Gira EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leandro Albuquerque to maneuver through the defense. Charles Trancoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilmar Macedo in the 69th minute of the match. If Waldemar Cabral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Virgílio Mello during the 91st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Avanzzeira F.C's Virgílio Mello got a free kick in the 91st minute. Gira EC's Sydney Sabóia got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
