Os Espartanos's supporters rose to their feet, but Moisés Trevisan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Noel Fernandes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 5th match minute, Arariuna was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcelo Prestes to maneuver through the defense. Sidnei Cavalcante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rodriguinho Macedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Noel Fernandes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Sidnei Cavalcante had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hamílton Melo in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rui Alves prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 16 played minutes Arariuna got a freekick which was hit by Júlio Soares. Moisés Trevisan took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 16th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Noel Fernandes. Arariuna's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Rodriguinho Macedo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 18thth minute tested the skills of Noel Fernandes when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Luiz Paulo Ramos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Noel Fernandes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. Júlio Soares kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. Rui Alves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luiz Eduardo Mendes, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Os Espartanos's zone, Hamílton Melo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rui Alves came out of the goal and Hamílton Melo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 44 minutes into the match, Os Espartanos's goal looked a bit too open when Hamílton Melo came free, but Rui Alves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hamílton Melo made a kick off. Noel Fernandes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rodriguinho Macedo's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. Rui Alves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hamílton Melo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rui Alves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hamílton Melo, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute.
