Dudu Carioca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erik Paes having to interfere. 16 minutes into the match, Cavagnoli's goal looked a bit too open when Luís Eduardo Paes came free, but Erik Paes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tomé Travassos could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Gilmar Pires made a huge save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomé Travassos got free with Gilmar Pires in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luisão Correia to make the kick off. Gilmar Pires showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomé Travassos, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. If Luís Eduardo Paes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
