With a little luck, Linhares FC's Toninho Barros got control of the ball when Tiaguinho Arce tried to sneak it across the goal line. Donato Baiano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 34th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Geraldo Braga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cléberson Viana having to interfere. 38 minutes into the game, Linhares FC's Oswaldo Sena nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Cléberson Viana made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Donato Baiano blasted a shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Cléberson Viana having to make a save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Benjamin Medeiros in the 46th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cléberson Viana saved Cruzeiro MG from getting behind. The Cruzeiro MG players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Linhares FC were winning 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ian Messias stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Dito Ramalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 54th minute, Dito Ramalho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 58 minutes into the match, Cruzeiro MG's goal looked a bit too open when Oswaldo Sena came free, but Cléberson Viana reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With an all-out effort, Linhares FC's Cléberson Viana threw himself towards the right post 61 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Oswaldo Sena, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. When Ian Messias came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Cruzeiro MG fans jumped to their feet. Linhares FC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
