César Porto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 28 minutes into the match, Port Vale's Alex de Mendonça sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that César Porto narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Luís da Mata blasted a shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without César Porto having to make a save. After 62 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Port Vale! 75 minutes into the game, André Luís Lara cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Júlio Sampaio was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. César Porto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Noel Massa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. César Porto was left in no man's land by his defense there! Port Vale's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
