But to his dismay, Alexsandro de Barros quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Caricaca's Paulo Renato de Brito played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alexsandro de Barros in the 26th minute of play. A collision led to Rezende getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Antônio Carlos Rosa hit a great ball. In the 35th minute Bernardo Baptista shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paulo Renato de Brito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 37 minutes into the match, Caricaca's goal looked a bit too open when Alexsandro de Barros came free, but Paulo Renato de Brito reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fred Breckenfeld might have been able to make a better finish in the 39th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tomás Furtado. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fred Breckenfeld ran back to his position shaking his head. Juninho Pernambucano's late challenge caught a Rezende's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Juninho Pernambucano helped the player get up and apologised. In the 43rd match minute, Caricaca was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juninho Pernambucano to maneuver through the defense.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Wágner Lago was the one to do the kick off. Wágner Lago received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Tomás Furtado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Wágner Lago had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Allan Leite fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Caricaca's protests and gave Allan Leite a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Rezende booed when Caricaca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Allan Leite didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 61 minutes, Bernardo Baptista managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rezende's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bernardo Baptista was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 69th minute Wágner Lago shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tomás Furtado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 82 minutes into the game, Luiz Guilherme Silveira threw the ball into play from the sideline. Caricaca's Wágner Lago quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Wágner Lago received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute.
