Raimundo Almeida took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Samuca Fernandes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Fernando Valadares kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cláudio Dionísio in the 14th minute of play forced Caputera's goalkeeper Reginaldo Donatello to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Yuri Baptista had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Caputera's Reginaldo Donatello proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save Caputera from getting a goal against them. 21 minutes into the match, Fernando Valadares had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Raimundo Almeida. Rueiros's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fernando Valadares was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Cícero Veloso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rueiros's supporters rose to their feet, but Cícero Veloso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Reginaldo Donatello breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Reginaldo Donatello made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cícero Veloso in the 31st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernando Valadares in the 35th minute of play forced Rueiros's goalkeeper Raimundo Almeida to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cláudio Dionísio's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Reginaldo Donatello read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play. In the 47th minute, Manoel de Sousa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Fernando Valadares stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Rueiros's Ernani Alcântara got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some careless play in the Caputera defense, Cláudio Dionísio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Reginaldo Donatello. The Caputera fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Reginaldo Donatello should have stopped the shot. In the 61st minute, one of Rueiros:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Rueiros. The goalkeeper, Raimundo Almeida, was totally fooled by Caputera's Gilson Mineiro, who 62 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. After 68 minutes of play, Rueiros's Cláudio Dionísio made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Reginaldo Donatello was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 71st minute, one of Caputera:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Caputera. Dudu Aparecido walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind Rueiros's goalkeeper Raimundo Almeida, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Reginaldo Donatello showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cícero Veloso, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Cláudio Dionísio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reginaldo Donatello having to interfere. Cícero Veloso recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Reginaldo Donatello made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cláudio Dionísio in the 97th minute of play.
