In the 12th minute of the match, Alfredo dos Santos tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Rubens Barral saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Norberto Negri got free with Rubens Barral in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sydney França fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zico Beckenbauer having to interfere. Alfredo dos Santos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
