Monlevade's supporters rose to their feet, but Thomás Custódio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Simão Cardozo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. José Paulo Lucas scored 0-1 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Simão Cardozo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jorginho da Mata received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. José Paulo França tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 35 played minutes Aracazinho got a freekick which was hit by Silvério Damião. Aracazinho's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jorginho da Mata was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. José Paulo França made an important save on a dangerous shot by Richard Neves in the 41st minute. If Jorginho da Mata had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jorginho da Mata recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jorginho da Mata stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Jorginho da Mata left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Aracazinho fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 57th minute of the game. One of Monlevade:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Aracazinho:s goal. A collision led to Aracazinho getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Silvério Damião hit a great ball. Simão Cardozo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Thomás Custódio in the 62nd minute. In the 64th minute Jorginho da Mata shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Paulo França saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Afonso Godoi fell near the penalty area in the 65th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Monlevade's protests and gave Afonso Godoi a yellow card for diving instead. Afonso Godoi hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. In the 70th minute, Afonso Godoi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Richard Neves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 71stth minute of the game Jorginho da Mata who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Monlevade's José Paulo França was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Richard Neves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without José Paulo França having to make a save. Arthur Sousa hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. If Jorginho da Mata had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 93rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Monlevade's goalkeeper José Paulo França, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. José Paulo França made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorginho da Mata in the 95th minute of play. 95 minutes into the game, Cléber de Amorim was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Monlevade's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Aracazinho the free kick. After 96 played minutes Monlevade got a freekick which was hit by Cléber de Amorim. José Paulo França made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorginho da Mata in the 98th minute of play.
