Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) SANTOS F.C's Juan Leme started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 3rd minute, Arnaldo Paes managed to get in a good position for a shot. São Paulo's supporters rose to their feet, but Arnaldo Paes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Frank Cavalcante breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to SANTOS F.C getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Alexsandro Branco hit a great ball. Luiz Fabiano Velloso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frank Cavalcante having to interfere. SANTOS F.C's Frank Cavalcante played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubens Godoi in the 15th minute of play. Juan Leme was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 16th minute. SANTOS F.C's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. São Paulo's Wesley Koehler proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save São Paulo from getting a goal against them. 22 minutes into the match, São Paulo's Arnaldo Paes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Frank Cavalcante narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Belmiro Breckenfeld kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. In the 28th minute Rubens Godoi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frank Cavalcante saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wesley Koehler made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Didi Baiano sent off a good shot on target. SANTOS F.C's Frank Cavalcante played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubens Godoi in the 33rd minute of play. After 34 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for São Paulo! A collision led to SANTOS F.C getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Belmiro Breckenfeld hit a great ball. Juan Leme sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Didi Baiano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
In the 52nd minute, Rubens Godoi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Didi Baiano's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wesley Koehler read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. In the 69th minute, Rubens Godoi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Juan Leme took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Wesley Koehler. Wesley Koehler dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. After a defensive mix-up in SANTOS F.C's zone, Rubens Godoi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Frank Cavalcante came out of the goal and Rubens Godoi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Wesley Koehler made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juan Leme in the 82nd minute of play. The supporters of SANTOS F.C booed when São Paulo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Enrique Pena didn't get a good kick on the ball. São Paulo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Juan Leme was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The SANTOS F.C fans cheered their team off the field, for while São Paulo had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
