Ian Barral's late challenge caught a SANTOS F.C's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ian Barral helped the player get up and apologised. Ian Barral kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. Juan Leme received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. José Paulo França tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 21 minutes, José Paulo Lucas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Monlevade and the SANTOS F.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Monlevade booed when SANTOS F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexsandro Branco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Didi Baiano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Paulo França having to interfere. When Alexsandro Branco came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the SANTOS F.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alexsandro Branco couldn't finish the play. José Paulo França made an important save on a dangerous shot by Didi Baiano in the 40th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Thomás Custódio stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Monlevade defense, Didi Baiano kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of José Paulo França. The Monlevade fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that José Paulo França should have stopped the shot. After 64 minutes, Didi Baiano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SANTOS F.C and the Monlevade players grew even worse after the yellow card. Didi Baiano kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. Ian Barral was shown his second yellow card after 74 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 75 played minutes Monlevade got a freekick which was hit by Ian Barral. Juan Leme fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Paulo França having to interfere. When Didi Baiano came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the SANTOS F.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Didi Baiano couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Didi Baiano in the 92nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg José Paulo França saved Monlevade from getting behind. SANTOS F.C's Juan Leme got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 98 minutes into the game, SANTOS F.C's Didi Baiano nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. José Paulo França made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 7-2. SANTOS F.C's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
