In the 4th minute Júnior Pena shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wanderson Koehler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 4 played minutes Grêmio Esportivo Brasil got a freekick which was hit by César Lara. Júnior Pena got in the 5th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Wanderson Koehler handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. After having played for 7 minutes, Júnior Pena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tibbers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Júnior Pena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Júnior Pena fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wanderson Koehler having to interfere. Wanderson Koehler showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Paulo Brito, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. When Aírton Sabóia came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Grêmio Esportivo Brasil fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aírton Sabóia couldn't finish the play. Wanderson Koehler made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Júnior Pena in the 24th minute of play. 27 minutes into the match, Grêmio Esportivo Brasil's goal looked a bit too open when Júnior Pena came free, but Wanderson Koehler reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Zézinho Mesquita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aírton Sabóia, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Wanderson Koehler took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Paulo Brito, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cristian Peixoto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zézinho Mesquita having to interfere. After 42 minutes, Miguel Vidal mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Tibbers and the Grêmio Esportivo Brasil players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 42nd match minute, Tibbers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Miguel Vidal to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Júnior Pena to make the kick off. Pedro Paulo Brito's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 53rdth minute, Wanderson Koehler skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Pedro Paulo Brito received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Wanderson Koehler tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pedro Paulo Brito fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wanderson Koehler having to interfere. Cristian Peixoto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zézinho Mesquita having to interfere. Cristian Peixoto blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Zézinho Mesquita having to make a save. Tibbers's Júnior Pena got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Pedro Paulo Brito could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 76th minute of the match, but Wanderson Koehler made a huge save. Wanderson Koehler made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pedro Paulo Brito in the 78th minute. 85 minutes into the game, Sydney Vieira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Tibbers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Grêmio Esportivo Brasil the free kick. In the 85th minute, Sydney Vieira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Virgílio Soares recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cristian Peixoto struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Zézinho Mesquita didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio Esportivo Brasil. Wanderson Koehler showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Júnior Pena in the 96th minute of the match. The Grêmio Esportivo Brasil supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Tibbers's performance. The match ended with a win for Tibbers.
