In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vastar FC's goalkeeper Claudinei Cunha, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 22nd minute, CR Cachaça da Gama's Arlindo Dias ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Claudinei Cunha. In the 48th minute, Narciso Abreu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Vastar FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mário Lopes to make the kick off. When Carlos Eduardo Bueno came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Vastar FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Eduardo Bueno couldn't finish the play. Tony de Toledo's late challenge caught a Vastar FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Claudinei Cunha showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gerson Veloso in the 88th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Vastar FC defense, Gerson Veloso kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Claudinei Cunha. The Vastar FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Claudinei Cunha should have stopped the shot. Claudinei Cunha made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gerson Veloso in the 99th minute of play.
