Vicente de Medeiros came out of the goal and Zé Roberto Palmeira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Chicão Sarmento stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Paulinho Paes's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. After a rather tough play, Gameleira's Luiz Fernando do Vale got a free kick in the 44th minute.
