The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 3 played minutes Canalhas got a freekick which was hit by Bruno Mendonça. Enrique Carneiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kaká de Godoi in the 11th minute of play. The supporters of Mala Preta LTDA booed when Canalhas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bruninho Paraibano didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edmílson Nascimento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. João Paulo Sabóia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Enrique Carneiro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kaká de Godoi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 22 minutes into the game, Mala Preta LTDA's Edmílson Nascimento nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. João Paulo Sabóia made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Canalhas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mala Preta LTDA the free kick. After 34 played minutes Canalhas got a freekick which was hit by Bruninho Paraibano. Mala Preta LTDA's Edmílson Nascimento got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Edmílson Nascimento kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving João Paulo Sabóia. That made the score 2-0 in the 39 minute of play.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Eliézer Arruda made a kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Mala Preta LTDA's goal looked a bit too open when Kaká de Godoi came free, but Enrique Carneiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Mala Preta LTDA's Enrique Carneiro got control of the ball when Bruninho Paraibano tried to sneak it across the goal line. João Paulo Sabóia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eliézer Arruda in the 65th minute of play. If Eliézer Arruda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute.
