Adalberto Maia started the match with the kick off. After 4th play minutes Perivaldo de Carvalho shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Carlinhos Massa and just under the crossbar into goal. Mathias de Souza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Christiano de Moraes having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edu Hermes got free with Christiano de Moraes in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Edu Hermes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 22 minutes into the game, Carlos Pombal was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Barcellos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Clube Regatas Brasil the free kick. After a rather tough play, Barcellos's Carlos Pombal got a free kick in the 22nd minute. 23 minutes into the match, Clube Regatas Brasil's Téo Nascimento broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Barcellos's Christiano de Moraes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save Barcellos from getting a goal against them. Mathias de Souza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Edu Hermes came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Clube Regatas Brasil fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edu Hermes couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Barcellos booed when Clube Regatas Brasil was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Téo Nascimento didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 49th minute of the match Barcellos got a corner. Clube Regatas Brasil's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Edmílson Favoretto ran over to the corner to take the kick. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

If Adalberto Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Téo Nascimento kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. Adalberto Maia received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Carlinhos Massa came out and tried to block the shot, but Adalberto Maia slotted it home off the left post making it 0-2 in the 55th minute. A collision led to Clube Regatas Brasil getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Wilton de Amaral hit a great ball. After 65 minutes Clube Regatas Brasil's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Edmílson Favoretto who took care of the corner kick. Edu Hermes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Christiano de Moraes having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Clube Regatas Brasil's zone, Adalberto Maia stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlinhos Massa came out of the goal and Adalberto Maia tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Renatinho Valadares's late challenge caught a Clube Regatas Brasil's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Renatinho Valadares helped the player get up and apologised. After 77 played minutes Barcellos got a freekick which was hit by Renatinho Valadares. In the 86th match minute, Clube Regatas Brasil was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Conrado Pinheiro to maneuver through the defense. In the 87th minute of the match Edmílson Favoretto sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Carlinhos Massa skillfully saved the ball. In the 93rd minute, Perivaldo de Carvalho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Barcellos supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Barcellos would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
