Luís Gustavo Nascimento was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Almir Peres made a fantastic save in the 29th minute, when Andrézinho Massa sent off a good shot on target. In the 30th minute, Marquinhos de Alcântara left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The LEGIONÁRIOS fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. A collision led to LEGIONÁRIOS getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Egídio Arósio hit a great ball. LEGIONÁRIOS's Almir Peres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Basílio de Brito in the 36th minute of play. Marquinhos de Alcântara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Gustavo Nascimento having to interfere. Afonso Arruda received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Luís Gustavo Nascimento tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Marquinhos de Alcântara to strike the kick off in the second half. Tião Cosme might have been able to make a better finish in the 54th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Almir Peres. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tião Cosme ran back to his position shaking his head. LEGIONÁRIOS's Egídio Arósio got his second yellow card of the match in the 70th minute. The referee ordered Egídio Arósio off the ground. A collision led to LEGIONÁRIOS getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Egídio Arósio hit a great ball. In the 81st minute, Andrézinho Massa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 85th minute Tião Cosme shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Almir Peres saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 96th minute, Andrézinho Massa ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Almir Peres was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. The LEGIONÁRIOS supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing LEGIONÁRIOS would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
