After a defensive mix-up in Grêmio F.B.P.A's zone, Tostão Vinhas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Roberto Koehler hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Raí Lima made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sidnei Cordeiro in the 29th minute of play. The supporters of Soinho SS booed when Grêmio F.B.P.A was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mauro Rodrigues didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lino Reis struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Raí Lima didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio F.B.P.A. Agostinho Prata might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luís Eduardo Fernandes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Agostinho Prata ran back to his position shaking his head. Grêmio F.B.P.A's Luís Eduardo Fernandes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tostão Vinhas in the 43rd minute of play. Tostão Vinhas struck a weak shot in the 49th minute. Luís Eduardo Fernandes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Soinho SS. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sidnei Cordeiro stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Soinho SS defense, Sidnei Cordeiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Raí Lima. The Soinho SS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Raí Lima should have stopped the shot. An unexpected shot in the 59th minute by Tostão Vinhas got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After having played for 59 minutes, Agostinho Prata managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Soinho SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Agostinho Prata was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lino Reis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Luís Fábio Macedo charged in rather forcefully in the 72nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luís Fábio Macedo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 72 played minutes Soinho SS got a freekick which was hit by Luís Fábio Macedo. After recieving a nice pass, Grêmio F.B.P.A's Mauro Rodrigues tried to score from far away in the 73rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After 74 played minutes Soinho SS got a freekick which was hit by Guga Gerber. After 79 played minutes Soinho SS got a freekick which was hit by Jânio Mello. Raí Lima made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lino Reis in the 81st minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Tostão Vinhas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Soinho SS's supporters rose to their feet, but Tostão Vinhas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luís Eduardo Fernandes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Agostinho Prata struck a weak shot in the 97th minute. Luís Eduardo Fernandes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Soinho SS. Grêmio F.B.P.A's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
