Jerônimo dos Santos's late challenge caught a Pintinha's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Murilo da Mata showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernando da Costa in the 37th minute of the match. Fernando da Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 40 minutes into the game, Paulista FC's Fernando da Costa nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Murilo da Mata made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. In the 65th minute, Paulão Cruz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Paulista FC's Narciso Lucas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Gustavo Saraiva in the 70th minute of play. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luís Gustavo Saraiva couldn't finish the play. If Fernando da Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. For all the effort they put into the match, the Paulista FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Pintinha.
