After the first half Flamengo RJ were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When Luizão Cordeiro fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Flamengo RJ's protests and gave Luizão Cordeiro a yellow card for diving instead. Doni Trevisan took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 52nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Olívio Vergílio. Flamengo RJ's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a rather tough play, Atlético São Jorge's Cauã Valle got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Olívio Vergílio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Juvenal Pitta in the 72nd minute of the match. Tomás Quintal hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. After 80 played minutes Flamengo RJ got a freekick which was hit by Eurico Paulista. Léo Paes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Augusto Toledo in the 84th minute of play. 89 minutes into the match, Flamengo RJ's goal looked a bit too open when Váldson Cavalcante came free, but Olívio Vergílio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Válter Aguiar charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Válter Aguiar the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Atlético São Jorge booed when Flamengo RJ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Válter Aguiar didn't get a good kick on the ball.
