But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Renato Pernambucano couldn't finish the play. 16 minutes into the match, Vila da Penha EC's goal looked a bit too open when Joaquim Netto came free, but Rodrigo Veloso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gustavo Perez hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. The supporters of Vila da Penha EC booed when Palheta SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wanderson Machado didn't get a good kick on the ball. Palheta SS's Nuno de Alcântara played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Renato Pernambucano in the 25th minute of play. 25 minutes into the game, Renato Pernambucano cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Nuno de Alcântara was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Sílvio Luiz de Barros's late challenge caught a Palheta SS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sílvio Luiz de Barros helped the player get up and apologised. Luiz Fabiano Koehlers short, quick shot in the 28thth minute got Rodrigo Veloso to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Hortêncio Vides's late challenge caught a Palheta SS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hortêncio Vides helped the player get up and apologised. Hortêncio Vides kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Rodrigo Veloso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joaquim Netto in the 33rd minute of the match. Rodrigo Veloso made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Luiz Fabiano Koehler sent off a good shot on target. Joaquim Netto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Vila da Penha EC's zone, Joaquim Netto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rodrigo Veloso came out of the goal and Joaquim Netto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Palheta SS players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Vila da Penha EC were winning 0-1.

Luiz Fabiano Koehler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aílton Fantini charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aílton Fantini the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 55th minute, Aílton Fantini hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rodrigo Veloso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Joaquim Netto's shot from short distance in the 59th minute. Joaquim Netto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rodrigo Veloso read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. Luiz Fabiano Koehler might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rodrigo Veloso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luiz Fabiano Koehler ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience was convinced that Joaquim Netto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rodrigo Veloso was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. 67 minutes into the game, Luiz Fabiano Koehler cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Albertinho do Valle kicked well hit freekick during the 83rd minute of the match. During the 87th minute of the match Aílton Fantini completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Aílton Fantini a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to Vila da Penha EC getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Aílton Fantini hit a great ball. Palheta SS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vila da Penha EC the free kick. After 97 played minutes Palheta SS got a freekick which was hit by Gustavo Perez.
