Paulão Favoretto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agnaldo Hermes, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. After having played for 10 minutes, Agnaldo Hermes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Riograndense FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Agnaldo Hermes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 11 minutes in the game, Agnaldo Hermes fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Paulão Favoretto having to interfere. If Hortêncio Eger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paulão Favoretto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agnaldo Hermes in the 21st minute of play. In the 22nd minute, Clóvis Peres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Agnaldo Hermes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of DIABLOS RS F.C. booed when Riograndense FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hortêncio Eger didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Hortêncio Eger managed to get in a good position for a shot. Riograndense FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Hortêncio Eger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paulão Favoretto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Hortêncio Eger might have been able to make a better finish in the 30th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paulão Favoretto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hortêncio Eger ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in DIABLOS RS F.C.'s zone, Agnaldo Hermes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulão Favoretto came out of the goal and Agnaldo Hermes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Hortêncio Eger managed to get in a good position for a shot. Riograndense FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Hortêncio Eger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paulão Favoretto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 46 played minutes Riograndense FC got a freekick which was hit by Vivaldo Nogueira. When the match clock showed 47 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Roger Aguiar sped through Riograndense FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Pedro Luís Magalhães.

Paulão Favoretto didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Agnaldo Hermes went, in the 54th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. In the 58th minute, Cícero Dracena got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agnaldo Hermes in the 68th minute of play forced DIABLOS RS F.C.'s goalkeeper Paulão Favoretto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 73 minutes into the game, DIABLOS RS F.C.'s Cícero Dracena nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Pedro Luís Magalhães made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Hortêncio Eger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulão Favoretto having to interfere. Paulão Favoretto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hortêncio Eger, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Agnaldo Hermes struck a weak shot in the 87th minute. Paulão Favoretto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Riograndense FC. Osmar da Fonseca kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. Pedro Luís Magalhães made a fantastic save in the 92nd minute, when Cícero Dracena sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agnaldo Hermes in the 94th minute of play forced DIABLOS RS F.C.'s goalkeeper Paulão Favoretto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Despite being the better team, Riograndense FC failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
