Amílton Dracena was out of position in the 4 minute of play, and Carlos Fernando Hermes capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Carlos Fernando Hermes really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Amílton Dracena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Fernando Hermes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juarês Mello in the 8th minute of play forced America PE's goalkeeper Amílton Dracena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ramón Godoi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dagoberto Fernandes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Amílton Dracena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Fernando Hermes in the 17th minute of play. In the 26th minute Carlos Fernando Hermes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amílton Dracena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 27th match minute, Salsas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gugu Paulista to maneuver through the defense. Tomás Dracena recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Enrique Xavier might have been able to make a better finish in the 30th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ramón Godoi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Enrique Xavier ran back to his position shaking his head. Magno Damião charged in rather forcefully in the 38th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Magno Damião the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of America PE booed when Salsas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Magno Damião didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Gugu Furtado came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Salsas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gugu Furtado couldn't finish the play. 46 minutes into the match, America PE's goalkeeper Amílton Dracena had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Magno Damião. The long shot by Luís Fabiano Furtado in the 49th minute really tested Amílton Dracena's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Enrique Xavier stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Carlos Fernando Hermes took the ball and in the 56 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Amílton Dracena. Amílton Dracena dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Dagoberto Fernandes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ramón Godoi having to interfere. Amílton Dracena showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Magno Damião, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. After a rather tough play, Salsas's Juarês Mello got a free kick in the 62nd minute. In the 63rd minute, Antônio Carlos Passos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A hard shot by Tomás Dracena from long distance, 65 minutes into the match, got Ramón Godoi's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Enrique Xavier might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ramón Godoi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Enrique Xavier ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 75th minute Carlos Fernando Hermes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amílton Dracena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 76th minute, Gugu Furtado left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Salsas fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. Enrique Xavier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ramón Godoi having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dagoberto Fernandes in the 83rd minute of play forced Salsas's goalkeeper Ramón Godoi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Amílton Dracena showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Juarês Mello in the 85th minute of the match. In the 86th minute, Juarês Mello ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Amílton Dracena was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. In the 89th minute Juarês Mello shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amílton Dracena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 92nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Salsas's goalkeeper Ramón Godoi, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Amílton Dracena showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gugu Furtado, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 97th minute, Enrique Xavier managed to get in a good position for a shot. America PE's supporters rose to their feet, but Enrique Xavier was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ramón Godoi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Salsas's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
