An unexpectedly hard shot by Enrique Xavier in the 15th minute of play forced Correntina's goalkeeper Dedê de Salles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Amílton Dracena made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Luiz Gustavo Simões sent off a good shot on target. Enrique Xavier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 29 played minutes Correntina got a freekick which was hit by Dinei Sena. In the 31stth minute of the game Enrique Xavier who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Correntina's Dedê de Salles was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 32nd minute, Raí Catarinense left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Correntina fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Dedê de Salles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Enrique Xavier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Amílton Dracena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Téo Abraão in the 43rd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Correntina's zone, Antônio Carlos Passos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dedê de Salles came out of the goal and Antônio Carlos Passos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Téo Abraão made a kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Correntina's goalkeeper Dedê de Salles had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Enrique Xavier. America PE were awarded a corner in the 55th minute after Correntina's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Tomás Dracena took the corner. America PE's Tomás Dracena was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Dedê de Salles in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Enrique Xavier had several of the Correntina's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 58 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-1 score and a disappointed Dedê de Salles as he didn't even see the shot coming. Antônio Carlos Passos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dedê de Salles having to interfere. Amílton Dracena showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Téo Abraão, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. If Enrique Xavier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. America PE were furious when Anselmo Miranda was red carded, 76 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. America PE's Amílton Dracena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Falcão de Moraes in the 77th minute of play. Enrique Xavier's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dedê de Salles read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. Dedê de Salles stood somewhat misplaced when Enrique Xavier came free in front of goal and shot 1-2 to the left of him in the 89 minute. Dedê de Salles made an important save on a dangerous shot by Enrique Xavier in the 95th minute. The America PE supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing America PE would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
