The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Pula Pirata FC defense, Pedro Luís Ramos kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Edison Jorrin. The Pula Pirata FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Edison Jorrin should have stopped the shot. Gilmar de Lima showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Afonso Hoffmann in the 29th minute of the match. Santos Futebol Clube's Gilmar de Lima proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save Santos Futebol Clube from getting a goal against them. Gilmar de Lima showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gerson Messias, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. In the 37th minute, Pula Pirata FC's Afonso Hoffmann ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Gilmar de Lima. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Santos Futebol Clube's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Róbson Senna was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-1. Róbson Senna's late challenge caught a Santos Futebol Clube's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Róbson Senna helped the player get up and apologised. Santos Futebol Clube's attentive Raimundo Cerezo managed to snatch the ball when Tostão Pombal made a throw-in in the 62nd minute of the game. Pedro Luís Ramos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Edison Jorrin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Guto Madureira fell near the penalty area in the 66th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Santos Futebol Clube's protests and gave Guto Madureira a yellow card for diving instead. 71 minutes into the match, Santos Futebol Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Afonso Hoffmann came free, but Gilmar de Lima reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Santos Futebol Clube's Gilmar de Lima played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eugeniusz Mroczynski in the 78th minute of play. The supporters of Pula Pirata FC booed when Santos Futebol Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guto Madureira didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Pula Pirata FC getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Róbson Senna hit a great ball. Gilmar de Lima took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Róbson Senna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 85th minute, Afonso Hoffmann ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gilmar de Lima was frozen by the shot and now it was 7-1. In the 88th minute Róbson Senna shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gilmar de Lima saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gilmar de Lima didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Róbson Senna went, in the 90th minute, to the upper right corner, 8-1 was the resulting score. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Pula Pirata FC fully deserved thier win.
