The Itambacury FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Erik Gaúcho should have stopped the shot. Gilmar de Lima showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vladimir Leal in the 27th minute of the match. In the 28th minute, Caio Bezerra fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Gilmar de Lima, passed just outside the right post. Erik Gaúcho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Guilherme Alves in the 30th minute of play. 32 minutes into the match, Santos Futebol Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Vladimir Leal came free, but Gilmar de Lima reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Guto Madureira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Santos Futebol Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Guto Madureira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erik Gaúcho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Pedro Luís Ramos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luís Guilherme Alves might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Erik Gaúcho. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luís Guilherme Alves ran back to his position shaking his head. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Vladimir Leal in the 73rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gilmar de Lima saved Santos Futebol Clube from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Vladimir Leal's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gilmar de Lima was relentless in the 96th minute of the game. Santos Futebol Clube were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Itambacury FC to leave the ground with a draw.
