The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Ponte Preta TS getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. Matías da Cunha hit a great ball. Waldir Sena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juarês Pernambucano in the 8th minute of play. 11 minutes into the game, Jonathan Paiva was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Friburguense AC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ponte Preta TS the free kick. Matheus Matorin's late challenge caught a Ponte Preta TS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Matheus Matorin helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Friburguense AC's Matheus Matorin got a free kick in the 20th minute. During the 22nd minute of the match Matheus Matorin completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Matheus Matorin a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adelino Pontes in the 27th minute of play forced Friburguense AC's goalkeeper Waldir Sena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Juarês Pernambucano scored 0-2 in the 32nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Waldir Sena, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 45th minute Adelino Pontes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Waldir Sena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Friburguense AC's Marcelinho Alves got a free kick in the 46th minute. After the first half Ponte Preta TS were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Juarês Pernambucano to make the kick off. After 51 minutes of play, Friburguense AC's Jonathan Paiva made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Frédson Nogueira was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Juarês Pernambucano in the 55th minute of play forced Friburguense AC's goalkeeper Waldir Sena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Frédson Nogueira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jonathan Paiva in the 56th minute of play. 57 minutes into the match, Ponte Preta TS's goal looked a bit too open when Célio Batista came free, but Frédson Nogueira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Rubinho de Carvalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Ponte Preta TS fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 64th minute. Penalty! Waldir Sena breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Jonathan Paiva's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Frédson Nogueira was relentless in the 75th minute of the game. 77 minutes into the game, Adelino Pontes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Waldir Sena was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Frédson Nogueira stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jonathan Paiva's shot from short distance in the 84th minute. Jonathan Paiva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Frédson Nogueira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ponte Preta TS's Frédson Nogueira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jonathan Paiva in the 88th minute of play. Chants of Ponte Preta TS echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Friburguense AC had held the ball for most of the match.
