An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodriguinho Branco in the 18th minute of play forced Friburguense AC's goalkeeper Waldir Sena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marcelinho Alves hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. The supporters of BYU Cougars ® booed when Friburguense AC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matheus Matorin didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 25 minutes, Rodriguinho Branco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. BYU Cougars ®'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Rodriguinho Branco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 33 minutes into the match, Friburguense AC's goal looked a bit too open when Rodriguinho Branco came free, but Waldir Sena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Waldir Sena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rodriguinho Branco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Umberto Correia didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rubinho de Carvalho went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Rubinho de Carvalho kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, BYU Cougars ®'s Jonas Sarmento got a free kick in the 45th minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

53 minutes into the game, Júlio Pinheiro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. BYU Cougars ®'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Friburguense AC the free kick. After 53 played minutes BYU Cougars ® got a freekick which was hit by Júlio Pinheiro. Matheus Matorin struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Umberto Correia didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Friburguense AC. In the 56th minute Rodriguinho Branco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Waldir Sena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rodriguinho Branco's late challenge caught a Friburguense AC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rodriguinho Branco helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Friburguense AC booed when BYU Cougars ® was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rodriguinho Branco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Waldir Sena showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rodriguinho Branco, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. After 68 minutes, Angelo Messias mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the BYU Cougars ® and the Friburguense AC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Matheus Matorin charged in rather forcefully in the 75th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Matheus Matorin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. BYU Cougars ®'s Rodriguinho Branco got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, BYU Cougars ®'s Umberto Correia got control of the ball when Rubinho de Carvalho tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 90th minute Alfredo dos Santos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Waldir Sena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Waldir Sena stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rodriguinho Branco's shot from short distance in the 91st minute. Rodriguinho Branco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldir Sena having to interfere.
