The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Angelo Messias during the 5th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Angelo Messias hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. Marcel Vides's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Umberto Correia read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. Hernani Capixaba received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Umberto Correia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hernani Capixaba in the 19th minute of play forced BYU Cougars ®'s goalkeeper Umberto Correia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 21st minute Hernani Capixaba shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Umberto Correia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alfredo dos Santos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rodriguinho Branco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tião Fontes having to interfere. Umberto Correia stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hernani Capixaba's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. If Alfredo dos Santos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodriguinho Branco in the 30th minute of play forced Millwall FC's goalkeeper Tião Fontes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 33rd minute, Luiz Guilherme Siqueira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, BYU Cougars ®'s Júlio Pinheiro got a free kick in the 34th minute. Umberto Correia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hernani Capixaba in the 37th minute of play. If Daniel Zonta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Jairo Abreu kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Umberto Correia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hernani Capixaba in the 54th minute of play. In the 57th minute, Luiz Guilherme Siqueira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 61 played minutes Millwall FC got a freekick which was hit by Frederico Silva. After having played for 74 minutes, Hernani Capixaba managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Millwall FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hernani Capixaba was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 80 minutes into the match, Marcel Vides dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Umberto Correia, 0-1. In the 88th match minute, Millwall FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hílton Alves to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Daniel Zonta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Millwall FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zonta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Umberto Correia breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 93rd minute Daniel Zonta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Umberto Correia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
