Spectators: 7181 (Terracing: 5388, Seating: 1651, VIP seats: 142) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Tiago Catarinense took the kick off in the first half of the match. In the 2nd match minute, Gremio was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Narciso Fontes to maneuver through the defense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Narciso Fontes during the 4th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 4 played minutes Gremio got a freekick which was hit by Narciso Fontes. When the match had been going on for 10 minutes, Macarani's Laércio Pinheiro got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of César Amaral. In the 13thth minute of the game Célio Nogueira who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Gremio's César Amaral was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Célio Nogueira was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 16th minute. Macarani's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. César Amaral made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Gualter Rezende sent off a good shot on target. Tiago Catarinense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Júlio Ceresso having to interfere. Júlio Ceresso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Laércio de Medeiros in the 28th minute of the match. Gualter Rezende sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tiago Catarinense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gremio's Laércio de Medeiros got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Macarani's Júlio Ceresso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tiago Catarinense in the 37th minute of play. Tiago Catarinense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Tiago Catarinense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Célio Nogueira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 55 minutes Macarani's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Reinaldo Vinhas who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Reinaldo Vinhas got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Júlio Ceresso quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Macarani's Júlio Ceresso proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Macarani from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Laércio de Medeiros got free with Júlio Ceresso in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 62 minutes into the match, Macarani's goal looked a bit too open when Tiago Catarinense came free, but Júlio Ceresso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Laércio de Medeiros came free with the goalkeeper in the 67th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Júlio Ceresso could save by the left post. In the 70th of the match, Tiago Catarinense tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but Júlio Ceresso got in the way and made a wonderful save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gualter Rezende in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg César Amaral saved Gremio from getting behind. Tiago Catarinense was extremely unlucky when he, in the 81st minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. After a rather tough play, Macarani's Albertinho Terra got a free kick in the 82nd minute. 92 minutes into the match, Macarani's Célio Nogueira sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that César Amaral narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Narciso Fontes struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Júlio Ceresso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gremio. After a rather tough play, Macarani's Romeu Rocha got a free kick in the 95th minute.
