In the 37thth minute of the game Eusebio Txurio who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FLA-RJ's Pedro Paulo Mesquita was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. A collision led to Flamengo Clube de Regatas getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Allan Hawkins hit a great ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

An unexpected shot in the 79th minute by Luisão Vianna got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Clóvis Breckenfeld charged in rather forcefully in the 80th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Clóvis Breckenfeld the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 80 played minutes FLA-RJ got a freekick which was hit by Clóvis Breckenfeld. If João Francisco Nascimento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Flamengo Clube de Regatas's Luisão Vianna in the 96th minute got a chance for a shot 96th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
