Emerson Vaz did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 2-0 to the left of a surprised Gilson Paraíba 15 minutes into the match. After 19 played minutes AC Catania got a freekick which was hit by Christiano Sanches. If Emanuel Simões had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dedê Guimarães was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Gilson Paraíba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Emerson Vaz in the 45th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gilson Paraíba saved AC Catania from getting behind.

In the 53rd match minute, AC Catania was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Osvaldo Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. Jaiobazinho's Alfredo Ramalho couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 54th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for AC Catania. If Emanuel Simões had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. Dedê Guimarães showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfredão Netto in the 71st minute of the match. Alfredão Netto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Jorginho das Neves managed to get in a good position for a shot. In the 96th minute, Alfredo Ramalho sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and AC Catania's Gilson Paraíba didn't even have to move.
