After some fancy dribbling in the 6th minute, Joel Paes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Chiquinho Mendes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Erivaldo Favoretto hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. Gilmar Mesquita, 12 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. In the 15th match minute, América-RS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eliézer Breckenfeld to maneuver through the defense. Acácio Trigo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Fábio Paraíba made a huge save. After a rather tough play, Ingleses do Rio vermelho's Zézinho de Mendonça got a free kick in the 23rd minute. After 24 played minutes, América-RS's Gilmar Mesquita shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Chiquinho Mendes came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in América-RS reached it. Sandro Lira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Fábio Paraíba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fábio Paraíba made a fantastic save in the 28th minute, when Acácio Trigo sent off a good shot on target. 29 minutes into the game, Eliézer Breckenfeld was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. América-RS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ingleses do Rio vermelho the free kick. In the 29th minute, Eliézer Breckenfeld hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 32 minutes, Acácio Trigo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ingleses do Rio vermelho's supporters crossed their fingers, but Acácio Trigo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 34th minute, Celso Pinho made a precise shot to the right of Chiquinho Mendes. Ingleses do Rio vermelho's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. If Alex Mendes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joel Paes kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. Acácio Trigo struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Fábio Paraíba didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ingleses do Rio vermelho. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Sandro Lira was the one to do the kick off. América-RS's Fábio Paraíba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sandro Lira in the 55th minute of play. When Acácio Trigo came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the Ingleses do Rio vermelho fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Acácio Trigo couldn't finish the play. Acácio Trigo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 69 minutes into the match, Ingleses do Rio vermelho's Sandro Lira sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fábio Paraíba narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Acácio Trigo came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the Ingleses do Rio vermelho fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Acácio Trigo couldn't finish the play. Sandro Lira succeeded in the game's 82nd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-1. In the 87th minute, América-RS's Celso Pinho ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Chiquinho Mendes. Chiquinho Mendes yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-2. After having played for 91 minutes, Alex Mendes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. América-RS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alex Mendes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 95 minutes into the game, Paulo Sabóia was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing América-RS would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
