When the match had gone on for 25 minutes, Pedro Luiz Maciel took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Chiquinho Sampaio to make any attempt to save it. Newcastle's Elivélton Tinoco got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Bogdan Lobonț showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Fernando Negri in the 43rd minute of the match. Pedro Luiz Maciel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chiquinho Sampaio having to interfere.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Elivélton Tinoco was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Newcastle booed when Ŧ€ŘŇΞŁŁ€ ₣.Ć was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Durval Rosado didn't get a good kick on the ball.
