In the 9th minute, Sílvio Luís Ramos fired a really elegant long shot, but Valdo Miranda threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. In the 12th match minute, Buique was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cássio Mendonça to maneuver through the defense. If Rony Cardoso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Valdo Miranda was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Rony Cardoso showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 17 minute of play. 20 minutes into the game, Rodolfo Zonta was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Buique's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave BIRMINGHAM the free kick. The supporters of BIRMINGHAM booed when Buique was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rodolfo Zonta didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edmundo Araújo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. In a very dangerous position, a player in Buique fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 44th minute. Penalty! No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

In the 57th minute, Aníbal Azevedo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 59 minutes, Rony Cardoso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. BIRMINGHAM's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rony Cardoso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cássio Mendonça was slow to take the kick. During this time Buique's players had a chance to rest. Dito Cerezo made a great header on Buique's corner, it was just that BIRMINGHAM's Perivaldo Aparecido managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 78th minute, Edmundo Araújo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 79 minutes, Aníbal Azevedo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. When Edmundo Araújo came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Buique fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edmundo Araújo couldn't finish the play. Buique were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
