After a defensive mix-up in CR Vasco da Gama's zone, Luís Fernando Guedes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Maurício Tande came out of the goal and Luís Fernando Guedes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Júlio Vieira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kauã de Amorim kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. CR Vasco da Gama's Sandrinho Fernandez couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 10th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Groghom. Júlio Vieira scored 0-1 in the 12th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Maurício Tande, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Luís Fabiano Rocha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Luís Fabiano Rocha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Júlio Vieira succeeded in the game's 29th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-3. Groghom's Luís Fabiano Rocha got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fabiano Rocha in the 34th minute of play forced CR Vasco da Gama's goalkeeper Maurício Tande to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 39th minute Júlio Vieira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Maurício Tande saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Maurício Tande showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Fabiano Rocha in the 43rd minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Júlio Vieira made a kick off. In the 52nd minute, Júlio Vieira reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Maurício Tande. The goal made the score 0-4. After 55 minutes of play, Groghom's Luís Fabiano Rocha made it 0-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Maurício Tande was left in no man's land by his defense there! Through an outstanding action, after 61 minutes, Maurício Tande successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 62 minutes into the game, Marcelo Proença was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. CR Vasco da Gama's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Groghom the free kick. When Groghom's Luís Fabiano Rocha in the 66th minute got a chance for a shot 66th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye CR Vasco da Gama's goalie prevented a goal. CR Vasco da Gama's Maurício Tande played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Júlio Vieira in the 72nd minute of play. If Luís Fabiano Rocha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luís Fabiano Rocha struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Maurício Tande didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Groghom. Luiz Fabiano Veiga's late challenge caught a Groghom's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Luiz Fabiano Veiga helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, CR Vasco da Gama's Luiz Fabiano Veiga got a free kick in the 83rd minute. In the 86th minute, Kauã de Amorim hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sérgio Moreira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fellipe Vianna having to interfere. In the 96th match minute, Groghom was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Júlio Vieira to maneuver through the defense.
