Diogo Melo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Marcus Hermes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jarbas Sabóia in the 42nd minute of play forced São José FC's goalkeeper Marcus Hermes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 47th minute Jarbas Sabóia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcus Hermes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gilberto Palmeira was the one to do the kick off. Mariola's Jarbas Sabóia got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jarbas Sabóia came free with the goalkeeper in the 63rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Marcus Hermes could save by the left post. Marcus Hermes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Diogo Melo in the 86th minute of the match. The supporters of São José FC booed when Mariola was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mariola's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
